Community Services for Aging
Wilder's Community Services for Aging operates several community-based programs for older adults and their families.

Wilder Foundation provides Customized Living Services to residents who live in two Saint Paul Public Housing apartment buildings: Hamline Hi-Rise and Ravoux Hi-Rise. These personalized services support adults with daily-living personal and health care to live independently and to prevent or delay the need to move into a nursing home. Wilder’s Customized Living provides breakfast and snack items for residents to nourish them for the week ahead, and clients visit the office once per week to pick up their food. You can help enrich the lives of our Customized Living residents by increasing ease and access to this healthy, nutritious food. You’ll be a friendly presence calling to remind them to stop by and carefully assembling breakfast and snack items for them. In addition, your volunteer support will be a big help for our Customized Living staff. The volunteer in this role will serve at Ravoux Hi-Rise. Join us and make a big difference in the lives of local seniors and adults with disabilities!

Responsibilities:

  • Call clients at the beginning of the shift each week to remind them to visit the office to pick up their food
  • Take client requests to assemble and package breakfast and snack items into grocery bags for them
  • Assist clients with carrying items if needed to reduce fall risk
  • Help foster a welcoming environment by engaging in conversation with clients
  • Report any client concerns or observations to your volunteer supervisor

Qualifications Needed:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with and assisting people of varying ages, abilities, economic, social, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Must have understanding and patience with clients that present with mental health concerns.
  • Must be comfortable with frequent lifting and bending.
  • Ability to meet the time commitments outlined.
  • Ability to meet Wilder Foundation’s guidelines for acceptable background check.
  • Must complete a Mantoux test.

Schedule and Locations:

  • Work site: Ravoux Hi-Rise at 280 Ravoux St., St Paul, MN 55103
    • Total time requirement: Minimum 3-month commitment.
    • Project start date: As soon as possible
    • Day of the week: Thursdays
    • Shift time: 10:45am to 12:15pm (grocery pick up from 11-12)

Description

The Amherst H. Wilder Foundation is a nonprofit health and human services organization that has served the greater Saint Paul, MN area since 1906. Wilder is not a grant-making foundation, but a public charity as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The Foundation operates more than 70 programs and services that help children succeed in school, older adults remain independent, troubled youth create healthy futures, and individuals and families maintain long-term housing. Wilder leadership programs work to nurture and build the skills of emerging community leaders and to renew the energy and commitment of experienced leaders. Wilder Research is one of the nation's largest nonprofit research and evaluation centers dedicated to the field of human services.
