Collection's Assistant - History Center

The Polk County History Center (PCHC) is asking for two to three collections assistant volunteers who are interested in working behind the scenes helping the Curator of Collections. The history center in Bartow houses a collection of artifacts including textiles, tools, weapons, fossils, artwork, photographs, and digital items. Collections Assistant volunteers will assist the Curator of Collections who accepts new artifacts, manages the care of these artifacts, and catalogs and digitizes the collection.

Tasks that may be assigned are reorganizing shelves; digitizing, scanning, and photographing artifacts; data entry into Past Perfect software; light cleaning; filing; exhibit assembly or disassembly; and customer service.

What was once the Polk County Courthouse now serves as the History Center and houses the historical museum and library. The museum serves Polk’s community through educational programs, special events, and volunteer opportunities. The museum’s exhibits and programs continue to grow and change and there is always something new to discover. The museum collection includes natural and cultural objects related to Polk and the greater central Florida area that represent our history from pre-Columbian to present day eras. The artifacts on display at the museum represent individuals, cultural groups, and events significant to the region.
