Spanish Speaking Tutors Needed!

Save to Favorites

Northstar Tutoring

Northstar Tutoring is seeking volunteer tutors to help recent immigrant students. The majority of these students are still learning English and require tutors who are comfortable speaking in Spanish.

For more than 30 years, Northstar Tutoring’s mission has been to help low-income and underserved K-12th grade students in the D.C. area reach their full potential by overcoming barriers to personal and academic success. We achieve this by matching students with their own volunteer tutor/mentor who helps them once a week to complete their homework, study for upcoming tests/quizzes or work on supplemental education materials.

Tutoring sessions take place at the Hyattsville Teen Center (3911 Hamilton Street) from 6:30-8:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Volunteers are welcome to sign up for 1-3 nights per week.

A few additional facts:

  • We accept new students throughout the year so volunteers can sign up at any point and be matched with a new student. We usually ask that volunteers commit to the remainder of whatever school year they join in.
  • No previous teaching experience is required (approximately 90% of volunteers have never taught/tutored before).
  • We work with students in grades K-12 and volunteers can request a specific age range to be matched with. Please note our Hyattsville location only takes in students in grades 4th-12th.
  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to participate.
