This is a volunteer-only position.

Social Media Marketing is about Increasing exposure, improving awareness, and building relationships with our target audience. RTS's target audiences are the low-income black-brown /African American community, those individuals, and family members with mental illness, (especially bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other highly stigmatized mental illnesses). We serve Individuals who have lost loved ones who have died by suicide, the person(s) who have survived a suicide attempt, and someone who feels hopeless and is considering suicide. As well as the survivor of suicide loss (that individual life behind). The volunteer will have the opportunity to reach out to the community and gather stories, assist in the production of the various social media platforms, assist will placing articles in the local newspaper while being a major part of bringing hope, healing, wellness, and empowerment to others.

Though this can be a virtual position, we do require the volunteer to meet once a month with team members, and or board members. We also require a resume, cover letter, and three professional references. You may also be required to submit a background check.

To educate, empower, cultivate hope, and promote mental and emotional wellness, while removing the stigma associated with mental illness and suicide.

Description

Removing The Stigma (RTS) is a grassroots non-profit organization founded by Denise Holcomb in 2015. RTS focuses on mental illness and suicide prevention awareness. The mission of RTS is to educate and bring awareness to the African American community about mental illness and introduce the concepts and foundations of suicide prevention and awareness. We collaborate with other similar organizations to offer:

  • Support Groups for caregivers who care for individuals with mental illness
  • Training on mental and emotional health and suicide prevention
  • Faith-based Mental and Emotional Wellness Groups for Men and Women
  • We developed a web-based platform on the RTS website which mainly houses resources for the community.

Executive Director Denise Holcomb received the NAMI Scott Adamson Memorial in May 2021 for her leadership achievement in the community as a Mental Health Peer.

  • We would like our volunteers to commit to a minimum of 2-4 hours a week depending on the project.
  • Some knowledge of social media platforms and journalism may be helpful, but not necessary. The most important requirement is a passion to remove the stigma associated with mental illness and suicide.
