One Community is a nonprofit all-volunteer sustainability think tank. We're seeking a graduate structural engineer to work with our Senior Engineer and help with structural design review, detailing and report preparation for this straw bale sustainable-construction structure: https://www.onecommunityglobal.org/the-ultimate-classroom/

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Ability to research and check compliance with California Building Standard codes and International Building Codes
  • Experience in civil and structural design, preferably in structures; RC, Timber and Steel
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, must have your own license
  • Strong understanding of civil and structural engineering principles and practices
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
  • Minimum of 10 weekly volunteer hours (work from home)
  • Minimum 3-month commitment
  • Must be self-motivated and comfortable working in a virtual environment using GoogleDocs and DropBox for collaboration
  • California P.E. or working towards is desirable but not required
  • Proficiency in STAAD Pro desired but not required
*Licensing in our state (California) is not necessary, this is not for a final stamped review, that will come later and be done by someone else


POSITION SUMMARY

As a Civil Structural Designer, you will play a crucial role in the design report completion and plotting of existing civil and structural details for One Community’s Ultimate Classroom Structural project. You will work collaboratively with the lead engineer and structural engineering team to:

  1. Research and review the design details
  2. Research relevant code and review the structural engineering details
  3. Complete the Ultimate Classroom Structural Engineering Report


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • AutoCAD Expertise: Utilize AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D to create, modify, and maintain civil and structural drawings, including site plans, grading plans, and utility layouts.
  • Structural Design: Develop structural designs and details for various projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Project Collaboration: Collaborate with the lead engineer to integrate civil and structural designs seamlessly into overall project plans.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and verify drawings and designs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project specifications.
  • Technical Expertise: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, software updates, and emerging technologies related to civil and structural design.
  • Project Documentation: Prepare detailed design documentation, reports, and calculations, as required by project specifications.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all designs and drawings comply with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations through effective research.
