LEGAL ACCESS ALAMEDA

This opportunity is open to all CA licensed attorneys in good standing. Training and supervision is provided by Legal Access Alameda. Volunteer attorneys are matched with a low income parent who has a short cause hearing regarding child custody and visitation already set on the court's calendar. The volunteer speaks to the client, reviews relevant court filings, and represents the litigant at the hearing on a limited scope basis. After preparing written orders and making sure the client understands them, the attorney's work for the client is complete. SCP will file a Substitution of Attorney or Notice of Completion of Limited Scope Representation. At this time, SCP occurs every Wednesday afternoon in Department 513 via Blue Jeans videoconference.

About LEGAL ACCESS ALAMEDA

Location:

1000 BROADWAY STE 290, OAKLAND, CA 94607, US

Mission Statement

Legal Access Alameda is the pro bono arm of the Alameda County Bar Association. Legal Access provides free legal services to low-income folks in Alameda County through monthly legal clinics in a range of areas of law. We are committed to providing accessible services to the community using remote platforms through the pandemic.

Description

At Legal Access, we are committed to bridging the justice gap for those in our community who cannot afford an attorney. We strongly believe that a person's access to justice should not be determined by their income.

Since the pandemic started, Legal Access has shifted to providing services via remote platforms.
