We are committed to attracting Board members with various skill sets to help steward the future growth of the organization. To ensure that our diverse community is represented on our Board, we welcome members who identify as women, non-binary, people of color, and young leaders.

Board members are expected to attend 4 meetings each year, serve as active advocates and ambassadors for Silence the Shame, and leverage connections, networks, and resources for securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary to advance the STS's mission. Each individual board member is expected to know the organization's mission, policies, programs, and needs, help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization's fundraising and reputational standing and prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings.

Mission
Empower and educate communities on mental health and wellness

Vision
To be a world leader on erasing the stigma and educating communities on mental wellness through Community Conversations, Wellness Trainings, compelling content, and outreach programs.

About
Silence the Shame is a nonprofit organization that focuses on education and awareness around mental health. Our programs and initiatives consist of Crisis Response Trainings, Community Conversations, Wellness Trainings, digital content, and outreach events. We aim to normalize the conversation, peel back the layers of shame, eliminate stigma, and provide support for mental well-being.

History
Established as The Hip-Hop Professional Foundation, the organization gained momentum quickly when Silence the Shame was launched as an anti-stigma mental health awareness campaign. STS Founder Shanti Das partnered with influencers and celebrities through social media to bring awareness to mental health and the impact of stigma. With this momentum, the organization moved to change the Hip-Hop Professional Foundation's name to Silence the Shame, Inc. to maintain branding and engage donors.

In 2019, STS expanded mental health education programming and outreach programs to address poverty, youth development, and health disparities among Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer or Questioning (LGBTQ+).

STS has designed several program models to launch 2021-2023, including The Soundtrack of Mental Health (STMH). With the support of Sony Music Group, The STMH offers a wide range of workshops for self-care, including coping techniques, stress and anxiety management, and a wellness curriculum for artists, creatives, and executives in the music industry. The program also offers Mental Health First Aid USA (MHFA) and Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention Training.
