About The STEAM Generation:

The STEAM Generation is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) education for youth. We strive to inspire young minds, encourage creativity, and foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills to prepare the next generation of innovators.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and dynamic Volunteer Public Relations Coordinator with a specific focus on media relations. The primary objective of this role is to increase brand awareness for The STEAM Generation by fostering positive relationships with media outlets, securing press coverage, and effectively communicating our organization's mission and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Media Outreach:

- Identify relevant media outlets (online, print, broadcast) aligned with our mission and target audience.

- Develop and maintain a media contact list to facilitate effective communication and outreach.

- Establish relationships with journalists, reporters, and editors to pitch stories and press releases.

  1. Press Releases and Story Pitches:

- Create compelling press releases, story angles, and pitches that highlight our organization's programs, events, and impact.

- Distribute press releases to media contacts and follow up to secure coverage and features.

  1. Media Events and Campaigns:

- Plan and organize media events, press conferences, and interviews to increase media exposure.

- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and coordination of media-related activities.

  1. Content Creation:

- Develop engaging and informative content for press materials, including fact sheets, backgrounders, and talking points for spokespersons.

- Work with the Marketing team to align PR efforts with overall branding and messaging strategies.

  1. Media Monitoring and Reporting:

- Monitor media coverage and social media discussions related to The STEAM Generation to gauge public sentiment and adjust strategies as needed.

- Compile and analyze media metrics, coverage reports, and press clippings to assess the impact of PR efforts.

Qualifications:

- Strong passion for STEAM education and the mission of The STEAM Generation.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to build and maintain relationships with media professionals.

- Experience in media relations, public relations, or communications is a plus.

- Familiarity with media monitoring tools and PR software.

- Self-motivated, well-organized, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

Time Commitment:

This is a flexible volunteer position that can be performed remotely. The time commitment is approximately 2 hours per week, depending on the workload and upcoming events.

Description

The STEAM Generation brings science, technology, engineering, Art, and math (STEAM), to kids ages 4 to 14 in a fun and challenging way through classes, camps, clubs, and workshops. We are proud to inspire children to build on their natural curiosity by teaching STEAM concepts through hands-on learning.
