ORGANIZATION: Literacy Coalition of Central Texas

English as a Second Language (ESL) instructors teach English to recent immigrants, refugees, and individuals wanting to improve their English skills. These members work with adults throughout the Austin and Houston community. ESL instructors work to develop the program they are working with, form relationships with their students and supply English instruction that is useful in clients' day-to-day lives. Daily schedules can range from a typical 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, or members may teach a few classes throughout the day and night depending on the needs of the community being served. Proficiency in Spanish is useful, but certainly not required.

Our term of service lasts for 8 months as a full-time position. You will receive free health benefits and many professional development sessions. The trainings we offer will help you develop teaching skills and other important skills - such as networking and resume writing. Finally, once you complete your term of service you will receive an education award of $4,441. The education award can be used to pay off student loans or to pay for future schooling.

This position runs from November 23rd, 2021 to July 15th, 2022. Participation in this program is full-time and a living stipend is provided.
