UPDATE

Good afternoon volunteers,

We would like to provide a quick update concerning this weekend’s tree planting at Sky Meadows State Park. The weather forecast is predicting rain on Friday and Saturday; however, the show will go on! Be sure to dress for the weather (rain boots, rain jackets, ponchos, umbrellas, etc.) and expect to get a little muddy.

Our team hopes to see you there but understands if you need to unregister from this event. In the case that you are unable to plant trees Friday or Saturday, we are opening an additional planting day tomorrow (10/28) from 9 AM to 1 PM. No registration is required for Thursday’s planting, but you will be asked to sign a waiver onsite.

Thank you for being flexible with these slight event changes and your willingness to give back to the community! Together, we will get some trees planted!

Please contact Robin Cross with any questions or comments at rcross@pecva.org

Join The Piedmont Environmental Council, Friends of the Rappahannock, Goose Creek Association, John Marshall Soil & Water Conservation District, and We Plant Trees for a volunteer tree planting at Sky Meadows State Park on Friday, October 29 - Saturday, October 30! Volunteers will be needed in two shifts, from 9am-noon and 1-3pm, for planting 1,060 native tree tubelings (scalping, digging holes, planting, and pounding wooden stakes). This is a family friendly event, and volunteers of all ages are welcome! Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Registration online is encouraged so we can plan effectively for the day's event.

We will provide all of the necessary tools for planting, extra water, and snacks (lunch will not be provided), and free entry into the park for the day. Volunteers are encouraged to wear boots or closed toe shoes and clothing that they're comfortable getting dirty and bring bottled water. Terrain will be relatively flat, and volunteers will need to maneuver through one fence. Sky Meadows will mow a path down to the planting site and area for parking.

Covid: Event is fully outdoors. Masks are recommended. Trees will be spaced 12 feet apart, allowing for ample room between volunteers. Volunteers will be wearing gloves. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own masks and gloves. All equipment will be wiped down between shifts
