About SUNDAY LUNCHBOX

Mission Statement

Sunday Lunchbox is a 501(c)3 organization improving access to healthy, local food for Austin families. Our mission is to improve access to local, healthy foods for families facing food insecurity. SL combines several programs to create a complete solution tackling both short term hunger and the need for systemic change to end food injustice in Austin. We believe healthy food is a right, not a privilege.

Description

Through our Lunch Lab program, we educate our community about nutrition and ensures lasting impact on food inequity. We bring children and volunteer groups onsite to our kitchen where they learn about food preservation, preparation and baking with a focus on local, in season produce. Our curriculum ranges from simple kitchen tasks for young learners to innovation sessions building new and creative recipes for our older children.

Families served by our Lunchbox Family program receive weekly deliveries of shelf-stable meals containing preserved local, organic produce. Our meals meet the following high standards for nutrition and are based on creations coming out of the Lunch Lab.

  • Meals are gluten and dairy free, always, with nut-free options
  • Local, organic produce in every meal
  • Shelf stable for minimal prep and storage requirements
  • Eco friendly sourcing and compostable packaging

Sunday Lunchbox is in a unique position to provide these programs to the Austin community based on the Lunchbox Ecosystem we began building in our formative years. In order to meet families where they are with local, healthy meal options, we are creating a sustainable network of farmers, food artisans, and our strong volunteer base where the output is an amazing story of community collaboration.
