You may open their food, utensils, prepare the area for their lunch tray, spend time conversing and assisting the patient with lunch time feedings. Mission Statement

Volunteers at Baton Rouge General are committed to supporting patients and families through compassionate service and care. From offering a warm smile and cheerful "hello" to visitors, to helping someone find the perfect gift for a loved one, to assisting patients and families in Surgery Waiting Area, our volunteers are dedicated to service excellence. Our volunteers are an essential part of our Community of Caring, impacting so many of the General's patients, visitors, friends, doctors, nurses and staff. They provide the little extras that help to create that special experience people have come to know and love at the General.


We are a not for profit hospital which is community owned. Our volunteers have an Auxiliary which returns all profits from fundraisers and the gift shops to the hospital at year-end to purchase medical equipment, security equipment, and interior updates.

  • One 4-hour shift per week or more depending upon volunteers availability
  • All volunteers must complete a 2 part TB skin test and a flu shot during flu season. Provided free by the hospital
