Mission Statement

Volunteers at Baton Rouge General are committed to supporting patients and families through compassionate service and care. From offering a warm smile and cheerful "hello" to visitors, to helping someone find the perfect gift for a loved one, to assisting patients and families in Surgery Waiting Area, our volunteers are dedicated to service excellence. Our volunteers are an essential part of our Community of Caring, impacting so many of the General's patients, visitors, friends, doctors, nurses and staff. They provide the little extras that help to create that special experience people have come to know and love at the General.

Description

We are a not for profit hospital which is community owned. Our volunteers have an Auxiliary which returns all profits from fundraisers and the gift shops to the hospital at year-end to purchase medical equipment, security equipment, and interior updates.

It is a great way to get experience with working with patients families. Volunteering at the hospital improved my people skills and my communication with people. It is great because you get to volunteer and experience with different races of people. There are times when it was very hectic, but volunteering here will teach you about patience as well. It was a great experience and I will defiantly do it again.

My work at Baton Rouge General is fulfilling and allows for a regularly scheduled opportunity to do service work in the Baton Rouge community. It gives students and adults interested in the medical field a first-hand experience with healthcare professionals and the Greater Baton Rouge community in a friendly learning environment. I have met many great friends through this program and will continue to volunteer here as long as I can.
