Community Care Services

Justice Resource Institute’s Trot On program, offering therapy incorporating equines, is looking for a part time volunteer to support a clinician recovering from medical care by acting as a horse handler.

You will be responsible for leading and handling the horse during individual therapy sessions, and offering indirect support to the youth we work with. All sessions are unmounted (on the ground/ no riding).

Our therapy sessions offer adolescents support in the areas of regulation, social skill building, perspective taking, and building trusting relationships. You will be essential to supporting this process through your ability to lead well trained horses, attune to the horse’s needs, manage their behavior, and attend to safety needs of the horse and participant. Therapist will be leading and supporting all sessions, but will just need assistance handling the horses.

This opportunity is perfect for anyone interested in therapy incorporating equines, therapeutic riding, or expanding their clinical experience.

Ideally, you will have experience working with horses in any capacity. We will work with you to ensure you feel comfortable safely leading the horses. Volunteers are required to attend virtual and in-person orientation to learn about our client population, HIPPA and confidentiality, and horse handling skills.

This opportunity is for a short term basis only in the months of March-April (3-5 weeks total). Hours are flexible but will likely include Wednesdays 12-5 and Fridays 12-6. Starting 3/6/24.

Located in Marshfield, MA.

Please contact Program Director Meredith Norton at mnorton@jri.org or Brycelyn Williamson at bwilliamson@jri.org.
