Growing Responsible Independent People (GRIP) The GRIP Program is an intensive group home located in the diverse community of Lowell, MA. We serve transitional age adolescents who come to us with social, emotional, mental health and behavioral challenges, and histories of complex trauma. The program strives to teach youth the skills they will need to succeed on their own in the future, including educational, vocational, and social skills. The program helps youth identify community resources and adult services as they transition out of the care of the Department of Children and Families. GRIP works to help adolescents integrate into the community in a supportive way through a strength-based model that identifies their unique capacities. Within the safety and structure of a home-like environment and a supportive community, our youth are able to build a strengthened sense of self, allowing them to move forward from GRIP with a sense of mastery and autonomy. We are seeking volunteers to: Assist individuals with planning and implementing an activity. Work with individuals to learn a new activity such as instrument playing, baking, cooking, language, sewing, woodworking, knitting, crocheting, photography etc. Assist a staff person with individual or group activities. Play board games or cards Share stories and listen Your ideas are always welcome!

We are looking for volunteer mentors at our GRIP Program. Sustained mentoring relationships have been repeatedly shown to make a significant, positive impact on youth outcomes. Our program seeks to bring these known benefits to the GRIP community as part of the continuum of services provided. We will screen, prepare, and support mentors who are committed to being a steady presence and act as a positive role model in their mentee’s life. One-to-one mentor/mentee pairs will be matched after careful consideration by program staff, receive continued supervision, and have access to low-barrier behavioral health services, social and educational activities, and community building opportunities. This formal relationship is expected to last a minimum of one year with weekly contact between mentor and mentee (including two in-person meetings per month), focus on personal goal-setting and feedback loops, and will be supported by program staff for as long as needed. Justice Resource Institute’s equine therapy program, Trot On, is looking for a part time volunteer to support one of our ongoing school groups, based in Marshfield, MA. You will be supporting the healing power of horses by acting as a horse leader during our equine therapy group. You will be responsible for tacking/untacking horses in preparation, leading the horse during the one hour group, and offering indirect support to the youth we work with. Our equine therapy group offers adolescents support in the areas of regulation, social skill building, perspective taking, and building trusting relationships. You will be essential to supporting this process through your ability to lead well trained horses, attune to the horse’s needs, manage their behavior, and attend to safety needs of the horse and rider. This opportunity is perfect for anyone interested in equine therapy, therapeutic riding, or expanding their clinical experience. Ideally you will have experience working with horses in any capacity. We will work with you to ensure you feel comfortable safely leading the horses. You will be supporting our work by bringing horses to and from their sessions. Sessions are back to back on Thursdays from 1:30-6:30. Our program functions out of Strongwater Farm in Tewksbury, MA.
