Caring Companion 4

Meet Robert (not his real name): At age 20, Robert joined the Navy and served for 20+ years. While training at a naval base, he met his wife Ellie at a bar and swept her off her feet. After retiring from the Navy, Robert went to college and got his undergraduate degree in his 50s. Robert has been to 49 states and hopes to complete all 50 this summer. These days, Robert has early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease and is cared for at home in Loveland. He struggles with verbal communication and memory but is friendly, kind, and extremely active. He would love to have a friend who can keep up with him on a neighborhood stroll or a recreation center!

Want to help this local veteran, or others in Loveland who are looking for a friend? Become a Caring Companion with Volunteers of America!

Here's what some family caregivers are saying about their volunteers:

    • My husband really enjoys the weekly visits with our volunteer and looks forward to the socialization, which he doesn't get normally.
    • Our volunteer has been wonderful. She almost feels like family. I absolutely love Caring Companions and I tell everyone about them.

Volunteers provide much needed companionship while giving family caregivers a chance to rest. They DO NOT provide personal care, meal preparation, transportation, errand help, etc.

VOA provides orientation and ongoing training for our volunteers, and only requires a few visiting hours a week. If you are looking for a flexible and meaningful volunteer experience in Loveland, this is it!
