St. Peter's & St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Providence, Rhode Island is seeking volunteers to work for on Saturday afternoons to help maintain our facility (primarily used as a Food Pantry) such as gardening, yard work, organization, cleaning. This is an ideal opportunity for an ongoing service project. We want St. Peter & St. Andrew's Food Pantry & Thrift Shop to be a beacon of hope in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood. Please help us beautify our building and make it more welcoming!

We are a small parish with a big mission-- each Saturday, we fed 900 families from the 02908 zip code from our food pantry. In addition to our Food Pantry, we have a "pop up thrift shop" selling household goods for a nominal cost (all items are under $5) plus we are a COVID testing site & vaccination center. This is a lot of activity for a church with a small but welcoming congregation. We need more hands! Particularly because it is our goal to become a "Center of Hope" giving our food pantry recipients more resources such as job application skills, ESL, student tutoring. This is going to be really based on the needs of the community we serve (primarily Spanish speaking; mostly from Ecuador).

Please reach out to Sarah at ‪(401) 830-0470‬ (call/text) for more information or need any questions answered.

About Pete & Andy's Food Pantry

Location:

25 POMONA AVE, PROVIDENCE, RI 02908, US

Mission Statement

The mission of Pete & Andy's Food Pantry is to eliminate food insecurity in our community.

Description

Pete & Andy’s Food Pantry is an outreach ministry of St. Peter’s & St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Providence, RI. Our church has been providing groceries to our community since 1970. In 2009 we became an official agency of the RI Food Bank and provided groceries to about 40 families twice a month. Once Covid hit, the Food Bank asked if we would consider opening every week to help combat the high level of food insecurity, especially among minority populations. Despite being a tiny parish with less than 30 members, we said yes. Now, with the help of dozens of volunteers, Pete & Andy’s Food Pantry proudly serves between 130 - 160 families each week.
