FISH of Vancouver is the largest food pantry in Vancouver, and we need your help getting the food out the door to our neighbors in need!

In March of 2020 our pantry made a rapid transition from an open choice model letting clients in the building to prepacking food to ensure that everyone stays as safe as possible. It works great, but we need extra people to help make sure all our food has been sorted and packed and is ready for someone to take home.

Our volunteer options include packing that food in the morning, or helping to distribute it to clients. We also have a snack window that serves cold meals like sandwiches and salads to people who are living outside, and we need volunteers who would like to make sure their needs are met as well.

We are also seeking volunteers to support our haulers. Shifts run from 8am-11am, and include riding along with one of our two vans that visit local grocery stores for donations every weekday morning. This shift requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. We also have opportunities for new drivers with clean driving records.

We require that all volunteers be vaccinated and show proof of vaccination on their first day of volunteering (with their vaccination card or a photo of it).

Please reach out to FISH at (360)566-3243 or email aninae@fishvancouver.org to set up a tour and orientation so we can schedule you to volunteer!

Mission Statement

Driven by compassion, dignity, and respect, and empowered by committed volunteers, we are a nonprofit organization that provides nutritious food for community members in need.

Description

Friends in Service to Humanity (FISH) OF Vancouver is the largest food pantry in Clark County. The area we serve has the lowest income level in Clark County. Providing over 50 years of uninterrupted service, FISH and its volunteers have become a vital support in providing food for members of the community experiencing hunger.

FISH was founded in 1969 in a small rented space in St. Paul Lutheran Church in downtown Vancouver. On November 3, 2015 we opened the doors of our new and larger facility with a focus on expanding our service delivery to the community. In 2017 -2018 we distributed 100,00 pounds of food to 1,600 households each month to 4,500 adults, children, and seniors.

We thrive thanks to our 180 volunteers who give of their time and talent to support our most vulnerable community members. Last year our dedicated volunteers provided 20,000 hours of service which is the equivalent of over 9 full-time employees!

We are seeking volunteers to help pack produce, dairy and meat products into bags for our contact-free distribution to over 100 clients per day, five days a week. Please contact Dori Miller at dorim@fishvancouver.org or (360)566-3243.
