Volunteer driver will pick up food donations from our local participating grocery rescue stores and bring them to the agency. The food will then be distributed to low income individuals and families in need during the week. The driver will leave the donor a copy of a receipt with what they donated to us. Upon return, the driver will weigh the donations by store and by category within the store and it in the log book. The volunteer will then help other volunteers put the donations away. If inquiring volunteer want to sign up with a friend or spouse to ride along and help with the donation each week, that would be great. That person would have to sign up and make the same 6-month commitment. All volunteers will be trained by a staff before they are sent on your own to pick up donations.
Donation pickups: Sunday 9am-12pm
Minimum of once a week and a 6-month commitment requires for this opportunity
Must be 25 years of age or older and lift 25-35lbs.
Pickup location: Sprouts and Trader Joe’s
Community Services Agency food pantry services 150-200 families a day with supplemental food. Volunteer drivers are necessary to bridge the gap amid the food connection between donor and service provider to serve families and individuals in need. The role of the driver is not only to pick up food donations but to also communicate the impact their donation is making in the community, as well as keeping a positive connection between the donor and the agency. Also, the donor should be aware of the importance in giving food with a useful expiration date for clients. In so doing the contributor will be educated on the impact they are making through the agency. This can also contribute to the quality of donations we will receive.
