The Mentor’s program is a 2-hour, once-a-week commitment for the school year (October-May). Between August and September, the PPL Resident Services and the PPL Volunteer Team will train selective volunteers to prepare them for a one-of-a-kind opportunity to help youth in our community.
- This opportunity allows you to work with K-5th grade school kids. Volunteers will be matched 1-on-1 with a child - there is an opportunity to work individually with the child, but a candidate must be flexible to work in groups and with other youth.
- The youth that we serve for the program consists of individuals who have gone through supportive housing programs, were previously homeless, and/or have experienced trauma. The demographic of the children we serve come from diverse backgrounds.
- The program is self-directed. The volunteer’s responsibility is to engage, interact, and fulfill social and emotional support for the youth.
- The volunteer must be flexible. Understand that not every night will not be the same. Activities that the volunteer may be involved in include art therapy, science experiments, cooking, yoga, playing outside, and more.
- We ask that volunteers follow the dress code. Volunteers will be working with different elements so it’s important to wear clothes that are preferably activewear, clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty, and wear close-toed shoes.
- Black, Brown, and BI-POC volunteers are strongly encouraged to apply.
