The overall goal of this position is to perform a variety of administrative/clerical duties and to assist the Volunteer Program Office and the Native Plant Nursery.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Volunteer Program Office is responsible for managing and overseeing Lake Mead National Recreation Area’s volunteer program. On average, Lake Mead has over 3000 volunteers who provide assistance to the park. The volunteer assisting the Volunteer Program Office will be providing a variety of support services to aid in the management of the overall program. The volunteer will provide clerical assistance. Along with assisting the Volunteer Program Office, the volunteer will assist the Native Plant Nursery with scanning documents to be retrieved electronically.

Clerical Duties: Volunteer performs general clerical and administrative assistance which includes answering phones, taking messages, data entry, generating reports, filing, scanning documents, and photo copying. Volunteer may assemble documents, write draft reports, letters, articles, and assist with writing position Volunteer is authorized to use government telephones, photocopy machine, fax machines, laminators and other equipment to accomplish their duties, once their federal background check has been favorably adjudicated.

Description

Volunteers-In-Parks (VIPs) are Very Important People to Lake Mead National Recreation Area (NRA)! Volunteers contribute their time and energy to help us to protect the magnificent natural and cultural areas entrusted to us, the National Park Service. Volunteers go home with a sense of pride of having participated in something worthwhile. If you want to be part of protecting this precious public land, Lake Mead National Recreation Area is that national park!

Lake Mead Volunteers are essential to the park’s commitment to the visitor and the resources since they support all aspects of operations. Lake Mead NRA has 4700 volunteers who donate over 120,000 hours to the park operations each year. All the work volunteers accomplish could not ever be done by park staff alone. They make a huge difference!

Volunteers assist us in many areas of the park’s operations. Here are just a few ways:

  • Monitoring the encroachment of non-native species on native species habitat
