Patient and Family Support Volunteer

ORGANIZATION: Horizon Home Health and Hospice

Patient care support volunteers help patients and families by providing companionship for hospice patients. This can be anything from sitting quietly with a bed-bound patient, to taking an active patient out of the home for errands etc. Patient care support volunteers may play cards or other games with the patient, read to them, or simply listen as the patient reflects on his or her life.

In rural communities, there may be times when volunteers will have no assigned patients, but may be requested to be on call as needed as it fits into the volunteer's schedule.
