This position is perfect for creative-minded folks who love talking and working with older adults. The Arts and Crafts Volunteer facilitates and brainstorms new site-related craft ideas.
Location:
Fort Independence Older Adult Center, The Bronx, NY 10463
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring all clients and/or residents that are interested in a crafting project
- Assisting the activities staff as they need, such as preparation and clean up of supplies
- Assisting the clients and/or residents with the particular craft
- Ensuring the comfort of all residents and clients
- Foster an optimistic environment of kindness, community, mutual respect, and effective communication with all guests, staff, and volunteers
- Brainstorming art/crafts ideas
Initial Impact:
- Providing a creative outlet for community members to express themselves
Sustained Outcomes:
- Creating art keeps your mind stimulated and can help prevent emotional illnesses
- Creating something through arts and crafts can give you a sense of competence and greater self-esteem
Qualifications:
- Must be dependable, patient, and punctual
- Open-minded and artistic abilities
- Must be 16+ years old to apply
- A positive, friendly, and non-judgmental approach
- Spanish is a plus
Day & Time Commitment:
- Friday’s | 1:00 - 2:00pm

Description
Our story begins in 1942 when a few MMCC programs were run from a storefront on Gun Hill Road, basements on Wayne Avenue, and rented rooms in a local school. In 1958, the main building was built and the programs were expanded to meet the needs of the community annually serving 35,000 Bronx and Manhattan individuals and families of all ages.
