CCC (Compassionate Contact Corps) Volunteers provide telephone conversation with homebound Veterans seeking connection as well as provide support and communication to the Veteran's Caregiver.

This is a community based assignment where the Volunteer will utilize a quiet, private area generally within their own home to call the Veteran/Caregiver.

Ideally CCC Volunteers have good people skills and excellent communication/listening skills. They are emotionally mature, positive and service-orientated. Will be sensitive to the needs of Veterans/Caregivers in stressful situations. Volunteers are responsible for using their own telephone which will be in good working order, will use a clear voice, have good listening skills, are compassionate and have the ability to work independently. Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality a must as mandated by HIPAA.

Once matched with a Veteran/Caregiver, the Volunteer will schedule and participate in regular telephone visits conversing with the Veteran/Caregiver at a mutually agreed upon day/time (generally 10-60 minutes per phone call at a minimum of once a week). Volunteers will report any problems or concerns conveyed by the Veteran and/or Caregiver to the CCC Coordinator who works as the liaison to the Veteran's primary care team.

VHA Directive 1193 and VA Handbook 5019 requires that Volunteers in this role have a documented COVID-19 vaccine and Flu vaccine.
