Overview of position: Development volunteers support the central mission of the Willamette Heritage Center, a private, non-profit museum, history society, and historic event space. Volunteers in this role assist with membership and donation data entry, correspond with donors through follow-up letters and appeals, and help fulfill donation requests from outside organizations. Additional tasks may include sending mail, generating reports, and preparing event materials, as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Enter data using museum-specific software (PastPerfect) for membership, donation, and fundraising event records.
  • Process and prepare correspondence for new, lapsed, and impending renewal memberships.
  • Produce specific follow-up letters to clients for both monetary and in-kind donations.
  • Generate data reports as needed.
  • Fulfill and track external donation requests.
  • Prepare supplies and donor materials for fundraising events, such as the WHC’s Fall Gala.
  • Assist with projects as needed - mailings, donation records, data entry etc.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Able to listen to and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds, education levels, and ages.
  • Able to learn Development best practices, departmental processes, and organizational policies.
  • Able to handle confidential information with discretion and respect.
  • Familiar with or able to learn Microsoft Word, Excel, and museum-specific software.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Self-directed and willing to take initiative.
  • Must present a professional appearance.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Willing to follow Willamette Heritage Center rules and procedures.

The Willamette Heritage Center connects generations by preserving and interpreting the history of the Mid-Willamette Valley.

Description

The Willamette Heritage Center is a non-profit museum in downtown Salem, Oregon devoted to telling meaningful stories about the past that connect the Willamette Heritage Center's unique historical site and resources to the region's diverse communities.

Fourteen historic structures in downtown Salem, Oregon house permanent and changing exhibits, a research library and archive, textile learning center, and rentable event spaces. The five-acre campus is also home to retail shops, art galleries, cooperative artist studios, and offices run by our partner organizations.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 10am - 4pm. Library and Archives are open by appointment. Facilities closed major holidays.
