DISASTER ACTION TEAM (DAT) volunteers respond to local disasters when residents are displaced from their homes providing immediate on-scene care and comfort while meeting needs for shelter, food and supplies.
- Respond promptly when on call, physically prepared to respond within 2 hours.
- Use personal smart phone, tablet or laptop when responding; requires ability to open and track cases.
- Use own vehicle or public transportation to meet team, pick-up Red Cross vehicle and/or arrive on scene.
- Sign-up for on-call shifts (minimum four 6-hour shifts/month.)
- Complete training requirements within 90 days of onboarding, keeping current with all procedures and attending monthly meetings.
DUTY OFFICERS work with local authorities to determine Red Cross response to local disasters, immediately dispatching volunteer teams and resources while providing off-site support for in-field teams and personnel. Remote/virtual volunteer opportunity can be performed from home after in-field experience and training.
- Ensure response teams have tools, knowledge and resources needed to provide disaster relief services.

- Demonstrate leadership, coordination and communication skills during potentially stressful situations.
- Complete training requirements within 90 days of onboarding, keeping current with all procedures and attending monthly meetings.
