Fundraising events are a key part of The Brain Tumour Charity’s income, helping us to move further, faster towards our goals of doubling survival and halving the harm that brain tumours have on quality of life.

The Twilight Walk is The Brain Tumour Charity’s flagship event and it brings together our community up and down the country, as they take on a walking challenge to raise money, raise awareness and celebrate loved ones.

Last year we launched The Twilight Walk virtually for the first time due to the profound impact of COVID-19-and it was a great success! 790 walkers came together virtually and raised £348,000. This year we will be holding The Twilight Walk as a virtual event again and we’d love the support of a volunteer to help us deliver an even more amazing experience for walkers, with the aims of uniting our community and raising vital funds.

How can you help?

This is an exciting opportunity to support our team with the day-to-day running and management of The Twilight Walk.

As an Events Team Support Volunteer, you will be involved in:

  • Triaging new walkers to help us find out about our supporters and deliver the most appropriate stewardship for them.
  • Managing and placing t-shirt orders to ensure all walkers receive their t-shirts for their walks.
  • Managing The Twilight Walk inbox to ensure all emails are replied to in a timely manner and all queries are resolved.
  • Create engaging content to encourage
walkers in The Twilight Walk Facebook group.

We’re looking for...

This would be a great volunteer role for anyone hoping to gain experience in events management and we would love to hear from you if you have:

  • A passion for events and a willingness to get stuck in and learn
  • Strong IT and computer skills
  • Great organisational ability
  • A friendly, professional and polite manner for communicating with our community via email
  • Prior experience using a CRM or similar database (desirable).

We particularly encourage applications from those who are significantly underrepresented in our sector, including individuals from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.

What impact will you have?

In this role, you’ll play a key role delivering our flagship event, by making sure walkers have received everything they need for their walk and engaging with a wide variety of supporters to help make their Twilight Walk a success. By doing so, you’ll be helping our community to raise vital funds and awareness to help beat brain tumours sooner.

What can you gain from volunteering with us?

  • You will gain invaluable Event Management experience to share on your CV or in future job interviews, helping you to stand out.
  • You’ll join a friendly, supportive and passionate team and develop an understanding of how The Charity’s Events Team operates.

Practical considerations

You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role, as well as ongoing support from the team. This is a remote role and all activities can be done from home.

The majority of activities for the role can take place either within or outside of The Charity’s core working hours - we can be flexible to suit the availability of the volunteer. To ensure the volunteer has sufficient support, some crossover with the working hours of the Events Team would be beneficial. We’d also ask that any emails sent externally are sent within The Charity’s working hours.

We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will also be required to complete some internal data protection documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18.
