The new mentoring arm of the YDC is known as BAM- Baker's Anchor Mentoring. BAM provides a sense of stability, trust and a safe place for youth ages 6-18 in Winchester City, Frederick and Clarke Counties. Positive relationships are monitored through BAM support staff and have a lasting effect on the lives of area youth. BAM's focus is to inspire, empower and mentor local youth so they can achieve their goals in life.
A couple hours a week can impact a child's life today and bridge gaps encouraging trust, stability and friendship.
Volunteers (Anchors) must be 18 years old, have a valid driver's license, vehicle insurance and reliable transportation. Must be able to pass background checks including criminal/sexual registry check and Child Protective Services check. Volunteers must be able to commit to weekly visits for a minimum of a year.
A volunteer will meet with a child for a couple hours weekly hanging out in the community. Activities may include working on homework, playing basketball, going to the park, watching a movie, cooking or learning a new hobby.
