You will work alongside our innovative and energetic Edinburgh Who Cares? Scotland project team and will lead and support on educating and raising awareness of Care Experience to Primary and Secondary School pupils whilst helping children and young people engage in activities to build their skills and confidence and engage in their local community. The Youth group support volunteer role will assist in providing and supporting activities for young people. Participation opportunities will be created to build on our work within schools to enhance belonging and connection opportunities for Care Experienced people.
Would you like to share your skills and experience to help ensure young people understand the lives of care experienced young people and the challenges they can face whilst helping provide connection and belonging opportunities.
This role will involve interacting with young people aged 10 - 18 years via a variety of activities eg arts/crafts/workshops/general youth work at our fortnightly/monthly sessions as well as at our National events that happen throughout the year.
You do not need to be Care Experienced for this role, but we are as always interested to hear from applicants with Care Experience.

What will I be doing?
- Learning about rights, legislation and policy which relates to issues faced by Care Experienced people.
- Supporting staff to undertake activities
- Leading on activities
- Supporting young people’s sense of belonging and connection
- Helping children and young people to have fun
- Building children and young people’s confidence and self esteem
- Being a positive role model
- Helping to reduce stigma for Care Experience children within schools.
- Being a positive role model.
What skills can I bring to this role?
- A knowledge and understanding of issues affecting Care Experienced people
- Ability to work well in a team
- Good communication and listening skills
- Ability to encourage and motivate others to participate in activities
- Experience of working with children (Not essential)
- Ability to work well with children and young people
- To have a non-judgemental approach to people, have empathy
- Be enthusiastic, flexible, and committed
- Reliable and approachable
- Friendly, helpful, and understanding
