Vets Chat Inc. is a NJ based 501-c-3 nonprofit that improves the mental and physical health and lives of veterans, active military and their families through better nutrition, networking opportunities and community. We do this through The Vets Chat & Chew Program. The program is a 6 week cooking and nutrition program, currently held virtually, but will return to physical locations when appropriate.
Veterans suffer from depression, anxiety, insomnia and PTSD in normal times. With covid, flashbacks, nightmares, isolation and fear have intensified. Suicides have increased. Covid has also caused job loss and pay decreases for many veterans, increasing their food insecurity. The Vets Chat & Chew Program introduces them to delicious, inexpensive and healthy food which can help the healing process.
We are seeking 3 volunteer board members who can appreciate the sacrifices made by those who volunteer to serve their country. If you are interested and have the following skills, we would love to hear from you:
Finance (experience with nonprofit program and operational budgets)
Fundraising (social media, online and events)
Marketing (strategic, branding, etc)

Description
Vets Chat Inc. has been operating since 2015 as a 501-c-3 non-profit organization. We have helped hundreds of veterans, active military and their family members have better health and lead more productive lives. We do this through The Vets Chat & Chew Program. The program is six weeks and the same group of participants attend once a week for two hours. The main focus of the program is food, how it can make you feel, and how to select and prepare it. Participants cook with a professional chef and a nutritionist advises. A counselor teaches relaxation techniques.
Many of our past participants have reported better doctor reports, less pain, better digestive issues, less depression and anxiety, better sleep, less intense and fewer PTSD episodes.
Besides the food, The Vets Chat & Chew Program offers the much needed camaraderie that veterans want.
