Remote Volunteer Opportunity

Are you good at writing and organizing information and interested in helping to transform the lives of women in recovery? We could use your help! We need a volunteer who can help us compile information from different grant applications and put our key messages/impact statements in one place.

Your efforts will help us secure more funding, which in turn will help us to serve more women in recovery who are transitioning back into the workforce after overcoming adversities. Through our 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we create paid employment opportunities for these women, helping them to get back on their feet.

Thanks to the generous support of our community, which makes our program possible, we’ve seen program participants:

  1. Get and stay sober in challenging times
  2. Regain custody of their children
  3. Overcome legal challenges
  4. Be promoted in their careers
  5. Completely transform their lives -- and credit our program with making it possible

...but we don’t have all of our impact data in one place. When it comes time to submit a grant application or follow up with one of our generous funders, we frequently feel like we’re reinventing the wheel.

We know that there’s a better way to do this, but bandwidth is a challenge. A talented volunteer would make a world of difference for our organization.

The volunteer would meet with our Executive Director to help us develop a strategy for reviewing existing collateral and compiling the information on a cloud-based platform. This can all be done remotely. We estimate this project can be completed in approximately 8-12 hours.

In addition to expertise in writing and organizing, experience in grant writing and community outreach is a plus! Share your resume and tell us a little of why you want to help with this project.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to create jobs for women in recovery that help them flourish.

Description

Every single one of us has needed a second chance. No matter who we are, no matter what our story, we’ve needed to start over at some point.

Our team members struggle to find traditional employment because of their past. This leads to a clear problem: we have people hungry to turn their lives around, but no opportunity to become financially independent. As we all know, without a path to self-sufficiency, there cannot be lasting change.

That's where Second Chance Initiative comes in. Our 501(c)(3) nonprofit aims to be the launching pad where people can begin working towards a brighter future, thus breaking the cycle of shame and hopelessness that perpetuates relapse and recidivism.

A key component of breaking this cycle is changing the conversation. We do not see our team members as powerless victims. We see them as empowered survivors who have already taken the hardest step: they’ve decided they want something different for their future and are working to make that happen. We know that they do not want handouts. They want the chance to stand on their own two feet. We exist simply to give them a hand-up.

Here’s what we believe:

~ Your past does not define your future
~ There is no shame in starting over
~ Seeking a second chance is a sign of strength and people who do so deserve to be celebrated

So, here’s to every time any of us have been brave enough to start over, and here’s to creating opportunities for others to do.
