Mission Statement

Our mission is to create jobs for women in recovery that help them flourish.

Description

Every single one of us has needed a second chance. No matter who we are, no matter what our story, we’ve needed to start over at some point.

Our team members struggle to find traditional employment because of their past. This leads to a clear problem: we have people hungry to turn their lives around, but no opportunity to become financially independent. As we all know, without a path to self-sufficiency, there cannot be lasting change.

That's where Second Chance Initiative comes in. Our 501(c)(3) nonprofit aims to be the launching pad where people can begin working towards a brighter future, thus breaking the cycle of shame and hopelessness that perpetuates relapse and recidivism.

A key component of breaking this cycle is changing the conversation. We do not see our team members as powerless victims. We see them as empowered survivors who have already taken the hardest step: they’ve decided they want something different for their future and are working to make that happen. We know that they do not want handouts. They want the chance to stand on their own two feet. We exist simply to give them a hand-up.

Here’s what we believe:

~ Your past does not define your future
~ There is no shame in starting over
~ Seeking a second chance is a sign of strength and people who do so deserve to be celebrated

So, here’s to every time any of us have been brave enough to start over, and here’s to creating opportunities for others to do.

I had the BEST time working with these lovely ladies. I've volunteered twice now and looking forward to the next day I get to volunteer. This organization is doing incredible things for these women, and getting to speak with them it shows how truly grateful they are and happy to be there.

Such a wonderful group of people. So welcoming and so nice. They made my daughter and I feel right at home and we’re kind enough to give us a small gift for helping. We look forward to helping again next week.
