ORGANIZATION: BREAD HEAD CALIFORNIA

9:30-10:30 am each Wednesday

Do you want to lead a yoga, meditation, hip hop dance class, or other movement activity? Lead a Bread Head Movement class for our Community, Health, Education, and Wellness (CHEW) program!

Programming is currently conducted over Zoom.

Community - Health - Eating - Wellness (CHEW)

CHEW is Bread Head’s program centered on community connections, good eating, health, wellness, and creating collective intelligence . Having a sense of community and belonging keeps people attached to goals and positive outcomes. CHEW events and activities foster a sense of intentional community with a focus on issues, activities and interests that complement our PAN and Gaia’s Gift programs.

CHEW is a series of volunteer-led workshops, lectures and classes that provide opportunities for the community to gather for activities surrounding the program’s central values.

There are many aspects of life that affect physical and mental wellbeing, and through CHEW we want to share tools that support a balanced lifestyle. That's what community is about, being present and being seen as the unique individuals we all are.

What is Bread Head Movement?

1-hour virtual class led by volunteer instructors focused on movement and alternative wellness methods.

BH Movement happens virtually over Zoom Wednesdays, 9:30 am - 10:30 am PST. Class topics vary per week. Thanks to our volunteer instructors Bread Head has been proud to offer diverse types of yoga, pilates, sound and energy healing, a variety of dance classes and mindfulness doodling in the past. Our goal is to continue offering a variety of activities and practices to get you moving and keep you grounded in these stressful times.

Who attends CHEW talks, workshops and classes?

CHEW is open to everyone interested in stretching their mind and body! At CHEW events we see members of our community, including families, essential workers, those who are food and housing insecure, Bread Head program participants, students and and youth.

How to lead a class, workshop, or talk?

We encourage participation in all our events to build intentional communities. We come from a trauma informed perspective and we ask you to be sensitive in your communication and expectations as many participants may be affected by trauma. We respect attendees' desire to keep their cameras off if they choose to do so, but also create a safe space and encourage folks to take advantage of what that offers them in respect to their personal journey.

Mission Statement

Bread Head provides access to food literacy, education, and resources. By partnering in the empowerment of people marginalized by social inequity, we help develop healthy and inclusive communities.

Description

In 2016, Celeste Baker founded Bread Head to support newly housed individuals by offering access to food, life skills coaching, and intentional community. Since then, Bread Head has evolved to bring food literacy programs and services to the Los Angeles food justice & equity scene. Together, we cultivate a deeper understanding of the impact of food, and food choices on oneself, our communities, the economy, and environment. With our responsive programming and purposeful community, we seek to inspire personal growth, self-efficacy, and balanced living. We believe in regular assessment, reflection, and improvement, whether on the individual level or as an organization. Bread Head strives to ensure accurate, ethical, equitable, and inclusive policies for a future with food literacy for all.
