OpenDoor-Columbus (ODC) offers one year of free services (a Table) to a woman (a Friend) in recovery from addiction. Tables are composed of 6-8 volunteers who are trained to use their vast relational and social networks to impact the social detriments of health for these women. Volunteers can form their own Table of 6-8 co-workers, family members, ect OR can join a Table as an individual. Training is provided and then volunteers spend an hour a week with women from one of our Referral Partners such as h.a.r.t. (helping achieve recovery together), Basecamp Recovery, Maryhaven, Mommies Matter, or the Federal Probation of the Southern District of Ohio. The trained volunteers enter into a relationship with their Friend helping her to reach her goals. This opportunity of transformation is life changing for the volunteers and Friend.

As one volunteer said-

"There is no better gift to yourself than the gift of helping others. OpenDoor-Columbus allows you to help someone help themselves, making the gift last a lifetime."

Mission Statement

Bridging the gap to a healthy, drug free life for women in early recovery from substance use disorder, incarceration, and/or addiction treatment. We provide the missing link for women to reintegrate into their community, offering hope, help and healing.. These women receive additional assistance from dedicated community volunteers who serve as advocates, mentors, and sources of emotional support.

Description

OpenDoor is a licensed user of the Open Table model; a model of change that has been successful in transforming lives across the country for almost 20 years.

We recruit and train volunteers to become part of a small group (a Table) to befriend a woman who is in recovery from addiction. Tables meet once a week for one hour to offer love, support, friendship, and guidance. Our goal is to remove social determinants of health that keep women and their children in the cycle of addiction.

The uniqueness of our model is that it is NOT one-on-one mentoring. Each Table works as a team of advocates who bring their own life experiences, connections and friendship to the Table.
