Youth in our juvenile justice system need role models. And not just any role model. They need people who have personally experienced the youth or adult criminal justice system, who have suffered consequences of negative decision making, and who are ready to share their story and help youth learn from it. These Youth Impact Speakers will share their personal story and experiences in hopes of helping youth currently involved in the system make different decisions and help steer them in a positive direction.
We are seeking a quarterly speaking commitment- roughly four times in one year. Speaking days/ times are weekday evenings. Volunteers will be part of our Youth Mediation program, speaking to 8-10 youth who have committed crimes to persons or property. The group is geared towards restorative justice and understanding crime impact and consequence. Volunteer speakers should be prepared to answer questions from youth; have a passion for working with and supporting positive change in youth; have demonstrated maturity and dependability, and have the utmost comfort effectively working with diverse populations.
