ORGANIZATION: Waukesha County Health & Human Services

  • 10 people are interested

Youth in our juvenile justice system often have trouble connecting actions with consequences and recognizing the impact of their actions on real people. We are seeking to connect youth who have committed crimes against people or property with people who have experienced crimes against them or their family. Volunteer Victim Impact Speakers will share their story with youth who are part of our Youth Mediation program.

Approximately 8-10 youth will listen to your story, and with your approval, ask questions. This group is geared towards restorative justice and helping youth understand how their actions impact victims and themselves. Volunteer speakers are asked to speak quarterly, or four times per year. Speaking engagements take place weekday evenings. Ideal volunteers should have a passion and patience for helping youth understand their decisions. Volunteers should also be comfortable speaking and connecting with diverse populations and be able to present their story in an appropriate way that is suitable and impactful for youth.
