The train room contains a working HO Scale Model Railroad built by Navy Air personnel starting in 1978. It is named the Santa Clara, Gilroy and Fresno Railroad and has scenes representing the route down Highways 101, 152 and 99 from Sunnyvale to Fresno. You will operate the trains and talk to visitors about the train room and the museum. Operating the train simply involves flipping a few switches and periodically resettling trains onto the tracks. No prior experience with model trains or the museum is required. Training will be provided.

The train room is open to the public only on Saturdays. This is a public contact position. Mask and social distancing rules will be in place but be aware that the train room has narrow aisles. The museum is located within Moffett Field. US Citizens and permanent residents must present a driver's license or ID card or a passport to enter the base. Non US residents must present a valid Passport. Due to insurance requirement's, docents must become museum members and must be at least 16 years old. Membership is $25/yr. Younger individuals may help out but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

We have two volunteers supporting the train room each Saturday. One person is in the train room and one is in the main part of the museum directing visitors into the train room. This is a great opportunity to volunteer as a team with your spouse, child or friend.
