ORGANIZATION: Volunteers for Community Impact

StoryCorps is a non-profit with a platform to help people preserve stories and personal history for all to enjoy and learn from. Volunteers for Community Impact is looking for Virtual Storytellers who want to share such a story. The story will be audio recorded and facilitated by an interviewer who will ask questions to help guide the conversation.

Prior to the recording, storytellers will review informational power points, review the questions to be asked and have a brief phone introduction with the interviewer.

Stories can cover any range of topics. Here are examples of topics we wanted to cover: the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, life lessons learned through the current pandemic, hurricane preparation, etc. We would love stories specific to Osceola County to show how the county took shape, where we are now, and what the future may hold. Do you have another idea? Let us know!

In order for stories to be captured, the storyteller needs a computer with a microphone and an e-mail address-that’s all! If the computer doesn’t have a microphone, one can be checked out from Volunteers for Community Impact.

Volunteers can tell one or more stories. Each story will be a separate recording. Storytellers must be enrolled under the RSVP program, will have to create an account on StoryCorps and be 55 or older.

Our program is specifically geared to encourage volunteerism among those aged 55 and over; however, adult Volunteers of all ages are welcome. RSVP, a part of AmeriCorps Seniors, is America's largest volunteer network for people 55 and over, and has partnered with the St. Cloud Community Pantry to recruit volunteers for this amazing program. With more than 300,000 volunteers tackling tough issues in communities nationwide, RSVP shows how you can apply the skills and wisdom you have acquired throughout your life to make a positive difference in the lives of others. RSVP is federally funded by the Corporation of National and Community Service. Our volunteer support services are 100% free!
