Village Book Builders accelerates human potential for villages and students. We build technology-enabled libraries and provide virtual mentoring. We focus on improving educational access and delivery in over 30 countries for 18,000+ students. For more information, please visit https://www.villagebookbuilders.org/ . Due to COVID-19, we are sometimes the only education institution active in rural communities. We need help building better tools.

Job Overview:

A relevant and impactful role‒working remotely with a small team of developers weekly to accomplish organization-wide objectives. You will be developing the village portal, a web application in React.js in the front end, and Django REST Framework in the back end. This portal serves hundreds of mentors, students, mentor advisors, and program directors who use our libraries and digital mentoring systems worldwide, with the end goal of training mentors and providing these students with a robust educational support network. We are specifically looking for an experienced developer who can take the initiative in refactoring the existing codebase and helping us plan and develop new features.

Requirements:

  • At least 1 year of professional web development experience as a front-end, back-end, or full-stack web developer. Experience with React.js or Django preferred.
  • The ability to put in at least 5-10 hours a week for 3 or more months of active development and project planning. Working weekends or evenings are acceptable, as we are primarily asynchronous.

Perks:

  • Collaborate with exceptional, passionate developers from all walks of life
  • High Impact (we serve underprivileged children in rural communities across the world)
  • Large existing & growing user base (we have hundreds of active volunteers, thousands of learners, and are working with several companies such as Nike and Oracle).
  • Ownership in a rapidly developing project (you decide what to do & when; the organization lets you know its critical needs).
