About Us The Story of Village Book Builders starts with the simple love of books. Books encourage us to think critically, build empathy, imagine moonshots and help us build brighter futures together. Unfortunately, not all children have access to quality educational resources and the dearth of books is just the beginning of a vicious cycle. This is why we created Village Book Builders: A non-profit aiming to help communities re-establish learning cultures through access to safe local libraries, books, technology, and 1:1 student mentorship. Today we call this Hope Through Books. First runner-up in Stanford Longevity Design Challenge (2020), the Engineering division of Village Book Builders is looking for self-starter interns & volunteers passionate about making a difference by leveraging their core competencies. About This Position We are on the lookout for a skilled Data Engineer to become an integral part of our data science team. In this role, you'll employ a variety of techniques to convert raw data into valuable data systems. This includes crafting algorithms and performing statistical analyses to support our business objectives. The ideal candidate will possess robust analytical capabilities, adeptness at integrating data from diverse sources, and a proficiency in programming languages. Your task will be to innovate and maintain our data infrastructure, ensuring the highest quality and reliability of our data systems, with a keen focus on integrating data from platforms like Google Suite, PostgreSQL, and Digital Ocean. Responsibilities Design and implement data systems and pipelines. Assess business needs and goals to align data engineering strategies. Analyze data to discern trends and patterns, providing actionable insights. Develop complex algorithms and prototypes to solve specific data challenges. Merge data from varied sources to create cohesive and comprehensive data sets. Investigate methods to improve data quality and system reliability continuously. Seek out new data acquisition opportunities to enhance our data analytics capabilities. Create and refine analytical tools and programs to support our data science initiatives. Qualifications Proven work experience as a Data Engineer, or a similar role, with a portfolio of data engineering projects. Deep technical proficiency in data modeling, data mining, and segmentation techniques. Strong knowledge of programming languages, including but not limited to JavaScript. Hands-on experience with SQL database design and management. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is highly regarded. Any data engineering certifications, such as the IBM Certified Data Engineer, will be considered an advantage. Experience with Django or similar web frameworks is beneficial, indicating familiarity with web-based applications and services.
