According to the 2021 Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures, an annual report released by the Alzheimer's Association, 32% of Asian-Americans report discrimination when seeking healthcare as a barrier to Alzheimer’s and dementia care and 47% of caregivers report discrimination when seeking healthcare for their loved ones with dementia.

Knowledge and stigma about Alzheimer’s disease varies widely across communities of color with 46% of Asian-Americans expressing concern about developing Alzheimer’s.

Additionally, did you know that since the pandemic began, deaths from COVID-19 have increased by 16%?

Help the Alzheimer's Association continue to make inroads in this community by becoming a volunteer Virtual Community Representative today! We need your help more than ever to increase awareness of Alzheimer's disease as well as to connect people to FREE programs and services. YOU can make a difference!

*OPPORTUNITY FOR IN-PERSON VOLUNTEERING FOR THOSE FULLY VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19

Role:

- Research and connect with Asian-centered organizations in San Diego and Imperial Counties with the intent of forming an ongoing relationship and collaboration
- Promote programs and services from the Alzheimer's Association
- Engage others in the mission of the Alzheimer's Association
- Participate in meetings, health fairs, etc. as needed
- Network with others in related fields who could support our efforts to increase access in all communities
- Willingness to learn about Alzheimer's disease and how it affects the Asian-American community
- Opportunity to become a community educator by teaching classes on dementia-related topics
- Opportunity to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's
- Must be local to the San Diego and Imperial area
- Must be over 21 years of age

  • Must be at least 21
  • Orientation or Training
  • At least 1-2 hrs per week for 6 months or longer
  • Ability to be professional at all times as a representative of the Alzheimer's Association, online and one-on-one mandatory training. Must apply at volunteer.alz.org for the Virtual Community Representative and/or Virtual Community Educator position.
