Virtual Volunteering Opportunity

SQSH Wants to Train YOU to be a Queer-Affirming Peer Counselor!

  • EARLY BIRD applications close MARCH 26, 2022.
  • ALL applications close APRIL 23, 2022.
  • Apply ASAP as we accept applications on a rolling basis.

Do your peers come to you when they need support? Are you passionate about honing your listening skills? Are you dedicated to strengthening the LGBTQIA+ community in St. Louis and beyond? Join the St. Louis Queer+ Support Helpline as a helpline volunteer at https://www.thesqsh.org/volunteer

Joining a grassroots network of LGBTQIA-affirming peer counselors is a radical form of mutual aid amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. At SQSH, we offer training in anti-oppressive peer counseling skills and assistance with career development. You will gain valuable helpline work experience and peer support tools, and join a supportive, LGBTQIA-centered community! APPLY AT: tinyurl.com/SQSHApply22

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • All LGBTQIA+ persons and allies at least 18 years old (as of Sep. 2022) living in Missouri or Illinois are welcome to apply if you are able to meet the time commitment requirements for training, weekly shifts, and monthly meetings.
  • Folks who have personal experiences with or strong understandings of multiple marginalized identities (especially Black, brown, indigenous, Latine, Asian, and other queer+ & trans folks of color) will be prioritized. Stipends are available to poor/working-class applicants on a case-by-case basis.

Our Helpline provides free, confidential, and identity-affirming emotional support and resource referrals, operating from Fridays - Mondays, 1.00 - 7.00pm. Our work strengthens the LGBTQIA+ community in St. Louis and beyond, meets the community's emotional health needs, and connects callers to LGBTQIA-affirming resources. A LGBTQIA-specific helpline is such a needed resource for St. Louis, and you can be a part of it!
