ASL interpreter needed!

Overview:

We are looking for an energetic and experienced Sign language interpreter to help support our organization’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. The selected volunteer will be asked to provide interpretation services for our upcoming student showcase on March 27th, 2021 as well as interpret a few of our top classes for our spring semester, which runs from April 12th through June 26th, 2021.

Volunteer Duties:

• Providing a full range of interpreting/transliterating services for deaf/hard of hearing (HoH) audiences of our virtual showcase.
• Utilize skill in a variety of signed languages (i.e., American Sign Language (ASL), Contact Sign, and Conceptually Accurate Signed English, CASE) to facilitate communication
• Interpret our top after school classes for the spring semester (April - June)
• Close collaboration with class instructors to coordinate the interpretation process
• Responsible for interpreting in a variety of communication modes during organization-wide work related events such as programs, meetings, etc.
• Maintain consistent communication with program directors via email and participation in scheduled facilitator meetings

Volunteer Requirements:

• Highly proficient in English
• Ability to accurately turn the message from the source language into the receptor language without any additions, omissions or other misleading factors that alter the intended meaning of the message from the speaker.
• Minimum of 1 year experience as an ASL interpreter
• Prior experience working with teens and young children is preferred
• Strong interpersonal & communication skills
• A degree or certification in Sign Language is a plus but not required
• Must be 18+ years old

Location: Remote

Hours of work and duration of commitment: Must be available 5 hours per week (Monday - Friday) between the hours of 2pm and 6pm EST. Minimum 4 month commitment from late-March through late-June 2021.
