The Opportunity: Setting up financial systems, bookkeeping, and reading financial statements are essential for entrepreneurs but can be daunting and scary at first! That’s where you come in! Our virtual finance consultation is the perfect opportunity if you are looking to volunteer your time and talent to support small businesses and the innovators behind them.

Are you a good fit? You have experience working with business finances in accounting, information systems (Point of Sale, bookkeeping, etc.), or managing your own business' finances.

What will you be doing? Once approved as a volunteer, we will connect you with an entrepreneur or several (depending on your availability) to set up virtual 1hr consultations. During this time, you will teach them about systems and structures that can help them monitor and analyze their business - e.g., using bookkeeping systems and understanding P&Ls.

What is the time commitment? 1-2 consultations with an entrepreneur, about 1 hour each, to fit into your schedule.

Does Start Small Think Big provide resources to get started? We provide videos and additional resources to help you get started.

Ready to use your skills for good? Join our passionate community of volunteers by completing your volunteer application here: https://www.startsmallthinkbig.org/volunteer. We welcome multilingual volunteers, particularly those able to support Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs.

Please note: In order to volunteer, you must reside in the United States or in a country with overlapping time zones and be at least 18 years of age.

About START SMALL THINK BIG INC

Location:

132 W 31st Street, 9th floor, New York, NY 10001, US

Mission Statement

Start Small Think Big is a nonprofit dedicated to advancing equity and inclusion in entrepreneurship by connecting small businesses with the resources and community they need to thrive. - We stand for access and opportunity and get behind the belief that with a skilled partner, entrepreneurs and their businesses can thrive personally and professionally. - We create powerful connections with entrepreneurs and legal, financial, and marketing experts that provide assistance while building meaningful collaborations.

Description

We focus on partnering with BIPOC entrepreneurs, women, LGBTQIA+ entrepreneurs, immigrants, veterans, entrepreneurs with disabilities, low-income entrepreneurs, and formerly incarcerated entrepreneurs. We help identify entrepreneurs’ areas of need and provide them with free technical assistance across the finance, marketing and legal areas. We do this by connecting them with our community of corporate partners and skills-based volunteers - so small businesses have the network and resources they need to grow on their own terms.
