ORGANIZATION: UNITED WAY FRESNO AND MADERA COUNTIES

Summary:

United Way is working within the Creek Fire Recovery Collaborative to create volunteer opportunities to assist with the impacted community's long term recovery goals.

This project is designed to provide assistance to individuals and families who have been impacted by the 2020 Creek Fire. These families and individuals are some of the most vulnerable residents of our communities and are continuing to face insurmountable challenges in their recovery journey. United Way has created the Creek Fire Community Relief Fund to provide assistance to families and individuals impacted by the September 2020 Creek Fire. In order to complete this project we are looking for volunteers to partner with us to conduct outreach to impacted residents, assist impacted residents apply to the relief fund, review fund applications, and assist with fundraising efforts.

Training:

Volunteers will be trained by a United Way staff member to properly and efficiently complete all assigned tasks and duties. All necessary training will occur on the volunteers first day of service.

Time Commitment:

We are asking for volunteers to commit two or more hours per week and can be done between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm Monday through Friday. This position will require advanced training and therefore we ask volunteers to contribute at least twenty hours total if signing up for this volunteer opportunity.

Location of Service:

Ideally volunteers would come to the United Way Fresno Madera Counties Office, as there is plenty of room to social distance, but accommodations can be made to complete at home if necessary.

Safety Measures:

At the United Way Fresno Madera Counties office we are taking a variety of safety measures to ensure the health of our staff and volunteers.

These safety measures include:

  • Daily sign in sheet, temperature checks and wellness screening
  • Mandatory facemask & Social distancing policy
  • Daily office cleanings

Mission Statement

We mobilize the collective power of community to advance lasting solutions for the most urgent issues our neighbors face.

Description

After seeing the devastation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, both in the Central Valley and the rest of the country, as well as watching the push for social and economic justice rise to the forefront of the American consciousness in recent months, we are doubling down on our commitment to help improve the radical wealth, health, and educational disparities that have been negatively impacting our Communities of Color for far too long. One of the ways we’re doing this is through our new Prosperity Coaching model- an innovative, long-term approach designed to teach people how to grow and invest wealth from where, before, there was nothing.

Overall, our goal at United Way is to mobilize the caring power of community to advance the common good of our residents here in Fresno and Madera Counties. We know that together, we can make a lasting impact in our neighborhoods, as well as the world at large.

This is how we Live United.
