Kids' Food Basket

For thousands of West Michigan children, Sack Suppers mean school lunch doesn’t have to be the last meal of the day. With the help of volunteers, we provide the security and consistency of guaranteeing that meal each and every weekday.

Of the many volunteer opportunities available, one of our most critical volunteer opportunities is for being a Sack Supper delivery driver. These volunteers deliver so much more than meals to the dozens of schools and summer sites we serve across West Michigan, they help provide comfort to the children who now know they have the nourishment they need to learn and live well.

Drivers come to Kids’ Food Basket on a scheduled day each week to deliver Sack Suppers to assigned schools. Depending on your location, driving shifts typically take 1-1.5 hours.

Mission Statement

Kids' Food Basket exists to increase access to healthy food for children and families. Our core belief is that food is a right, not a privilege. Because that is not yet a reality, we mobilize human and financial resources to break down barriers that cause food insecurity. Our services include our flagship Sack Supper program, community-driven farming, family food provision and educational programming. Collectively, we are working toward realizing a hunger-free West Michigan for all.

Description

Who We Are

Kids’ Food Basket is a grassroots, community solution to childhood hunger. We engage all who care about children reaching their full potential - in school and in life. We began 20 years ago by serving 125 kids through our Sack Supper program and now serve approximately 9,300 kids each weekday in West Michigan.
