ORGANIZATION: Mesa United Way

  • 1 person is interested

Mesa United Way is proud to introduce a new initiative focused on addressing youth suicide prevention in the East Valley. The YOUNITED Teen Advisory Council is an opportunity for youth to learn about and become involved in mental health awareness and suicide prevention. We could use the help of compassionate adult mentors to advise and provide support to our young council members. Adult mentors will be responsible for helping the program lead monitor virtual meetings. Adult mentors can also provide feedback and suggestions to the council members as they develop initiative ideas.

Duties:

-Attend virtual (Zoom) council meetings 2-4 times a month
-Monitor webcams and chat box for any questions
-Complete suicide prevention gatekeeper training
-Check on youth if they appear distressed and notify the program lead of concerns

Optional duties:
-Share your program or event planning knowledge and experience
-Research specific mental health organizations and programs
-Provide other relevant feedback on youth-led initiative ideas

Suggested suicide prevention training will be provided. While it may be done online or in person, we recommend completing it in person for a better experience. For more information on the mentor responsibilities, please contact us.

If you know a teen that may be interested in joining the council, visit our website at www.mesaunitedway.org/younited
