Part-Time Spanish Teacher for Non-Profit Language Institute

(Ideal volunteer position for a retired teacher or skilled adjunct language teacher seeking to donate their time and skills to promote intercultural competence, multilingualism and literacy in Spanish)

Education in global communication is paramount in developing cognitive skills, creating opportunities for upward mobility, and establishing a foundation to excel in an ever increasing globalized society. We strive to provide local language learning opportunities in Arabic, English, Spanish and Mandarin through our enrichment program to youth and adults, regardless of socioeconomic background.

Purpose of Position: Teach in-person Spanish language and cultural enrichment classes for learners in one of many programs offered by ReDefiners World Languages. We are looking to build a team of passionate and highly motivated individuals who can effectively lead small classes of learners (ages 6-12 or adults) at various sites (schools, community centers, summer program locations) and is available to expand learning to lead online classes, if necessary. As a member of the ReDefiners’ teaching team, you will be joining a group of professional individuals who are dedicated to a mission and are great at what they do! Teachers have the flexibility to bring their unique skills, talents, interests and materials to support the ACTFL standards-based curriculum used by ReDefiners World Languages.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Review curriculum and prepare dynamic, student-centered, and communicative-focused lessons

• Facilitate interactive and engaging class sessions in target language (80%)

• Administer formative and summative assessments

• Encourage language use outside of class

• Communicate student progress with parents and teachers

• Demonstrate effective classroom management skills

• Commit to regular training and professional development

• Record and report student progress

Requirements:

• Native or Highly Proficient Speaker of Spanish

• Native or Highly Proficient Speaker of English

• Coursework in language instruction pedagogy, teacher education, or related field

• At least two years of classroom experience

• Experience working with students ages 6-12 and/or adults

• Strong Classroom Management Skills

• Familiar with various proven approaches to language instruction

• Reliable transportation

• Highly organized

• Able to express and garner enthusiasm about language learning to young children

• Highly energetic & Creative

• Able to incorporate TPR & conduct an immersive language course using 80% target language

• Experience in creating educational resources to support student learning

• Proficient in collaborative technological tools to enhance student success
