Community Ambassador Volunteers (Marketing Team) Needed!

Milwaukee Pets Alive isn’t just another rescue. We are here to shape rescue. Join us as a Community Ambassador Volunteer (part of our Marketing Team)! There’s never been a better time to volunteer with us if you are looking to be a part of something bigger than yourself - help us as we work towards building a sanctuary so we can serve even MORE special animals and make SE WI No Kill! This is a monumental undertaking and we are looking for TEAMMATES to make this vision a reality! Marketing is going to be hugely important in reaching the people and resources we need to create this center to help so many lives!

Most of us know the communities in which we live, work, and play very well. We need your help with the one(s) you know!

We rely on the support of our SE Wisconsin community in order to do the work we do rescuing and caring for the animals we do with special needs and considerations. The community IS Milwaukee Pets Alive. So when we have special events, fundraisers, need fosters, or have other reasons to flyer, we rely on volunteers to hang flyers in the communities that make up the Milwaukee Metro Area - so community members know we need help and/or their support.

Over the years we’ve developed and have a well-established flyering list of community boards for each major community in the Milwaukee Metro...but they’ve been developed by volunteers who didn’t know those communities. So if you live or work in one of these communities, you likely know more places to help us extend our reach...and save more lives!

We are looking for Community Ambassadors in the areas listed below that we can depend on for as-needed flyering (whenever we have one of those events or needs aforementioned). Flyers and a list of places to hang them will always be provided. We just need folks that live (or work) in the area to put them up (whenever we have need to flyer, it can often be hard to find individuals to help and we are scrambling to find individuals, or if we don’t find help, we worry that our need is not going to be communicated to those communities that is so important! So then other volunteers need to flyer those places - sometimes volunteers that live an hour or more away - so having individuals who are committed to help - and are ready to do so when needed that we can count on - that already live in these areas will help us be efficient and allow us to devote time that was spent traveling to flyer to attend to our animals...or rescue more)!

Flyering each community usually takes about an hour to an hour and a half (and once you’ve done it a few times and know your list of flyering places well, you get even faster at it!).

While the basic need of this volunteer role is to get flyers up when needed, knowing your community has additional benefits. This role is what you make of it - and we give preference to those volunteers who have an interest in helping us grow and expand (and not just do the bare minimum). Do you frequent businesses in your community that know you from your repeated patronage that you’ve developed a relationship with? Maybe they know you by name when you come in? Perhaps you can ask if there are any opportunities to do a fundraiser with them, host an event, or other ways we can work together to help each other? (We love to support and promote other local small businesses)! Could you ask them if we could place one of our donation boxes in their establishment? Or maybe you go to a restaurant or other business for the first time and notice they have a program to give to charities - could you ask how Milwaukee Pets Alive could be a part of it? This is the "ambassador" part of this role - to always be keeping an eye out for ways to help our animals where you are, and in general, to let people in your community know about what we do so we can do more of it! Most people, when they learn of a need for help, want to help. What they lack is knowing about opportunities to do so. That’s where you come in! You can create a lot of change...and make your immediate community better in this role!

Volunteer roles such as this one where you get to get out and talk with and educate others, are very rewarding as you build relationships and rapport with community members vested in making this community the best it can be. It’s also a fun way to really get to know your community better - even if you have lived in, or worked in it for a long time! No doubt, you will visit shops and restaurants you have never been to before!

Volunteers must have their own vehicle and valid car insurance to go to flyering locations, or have access to other transportation to complete the volunteer duties involved in this Ambassador position.

The volunteers' work to manage this project is done around their own schedule - work on volunteer tasks when it’s convenient for you - though some tasks will involve coordinating your schedule with the schedule of others (visiting businesses during their open business hours to post flyers therein, getting flyers up in a timely manner when needed to advertise for an event or when in need of foster homes, etc.)

We are looking for one volunteer for each of the communities listed below. Those with a backslash have fewer businesses/smaller/close together so have been combined into one "community":

  • Milwaukee’s Third Ward
  • Shorewood/Whitefish Bay/Glendale
  • Fox Point/River Hills/Bayside
  • Mequon
  • Racine
  • Mukwonago
  • Cedarburg

We are looking for 8 Community Ambassadors (one for each of the above areas) to fill this role. The right individuals will strongly believe in our mission, vision, and core values and have a sincere interest in elevating our organization, extending our reach, and growing with us (so commitment and dedication are important).

We are an entirely volunteer-run rescue. Everything you see was created and accomplished by a volunteer! We have no employees, so all volunteers should be self-motivated, be a self-starter with initiative, drive, ambition, and are able to work independently. How our organization is structured requires that all volunteers be able to accept direction to produce cohesive messaging, vision, results, and practices consistent with that of the overall organization as a whole and then take that direction to lead in the execution of their piece of the organization. Individuals must be able to follow through on their commitments. Community Ambassadors should also be outgoing, personable, enthusiastic, and love people as you will be engaging with people in the community and representing our organization! MPA is looking for volunteers to fill this role who recognize the importance of working on behalf of the special animals we serve and will work hard for them as they are counting on us to save their lives!

When every person does a little to make a difference, together, we make change. Reaching as many people as possible to let them know we’re here and the important work we are doing for an important population of animals that have no one else but us is directly proportionate to what we can achieve, and the number of animals we can save. The more volunteer help we have, the more animals we can help. It’s that simple. Will YOU help? If you want to help and can fulfill the needs we are looking for in a volunteer for this role, please email volunteer@milwaukeepetsalive.org or reply to this posting.

Please help us do more for the animals of this community! Thank you.

Milwaukee Pets Alive (MPA) is an all-volunteer, No Kill, 501c3 special needs and considerations rescue that focuses on saving those local animals that have been passed over by, would not be accepted into, or would be killed by other rescues and shelters because of their needs and considerations and would have no other option for life except for through our organization. These animals may be shy, scared, under-socialized, injured, aged, differently-abled, have medical needs, or need extra resources - all deserve the chance to be loved and cherished. And all deserve time, understanding, patience, and good, comprehensive veterinary care to help them get happy, healthy, and reach their highest potential. Their lives are important.

Our mission, through our work aforementioned and through comprehensive programs and resources to educate and help community members help the animals in their own lives (thereby preventing more animals from entering the shelter system), is to end the killing of homeless companion animals in southeast WI. The population we rescue comprises those that continue to die in the greatest numbers in our community.

Our vision is for southeast WI to be one of the safest communities in the United States for companion animals.

We couldn’t help these special animals of our community that we do if not for the wonderful people who volunteer their time and talents!

Are you ready to do more for the animals of YOUR community? Become a part of our team! Reach out to us today!
