Background
As a member of the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth (UNMGCY), Helping Hand International was first established in 2016 in India, and works on youth empowerment, capacity building, awareness advocacy, social activism, humanitarian engagements, and global partnerships for the SDGs. The Switzerland Branch was founded in November 2020, working under this main vision with specific focus on: equity (especially gender and race), access to policy making and justice, human rights, civil participation, health awareness (especially COVID-19), income generation, education, environmental protection, promoting the mentality of peace, and cultivating a next generation of righteous leaders. Through local efforts and collaboration with global partners and other HHI branches, HHI Switzerland contributes to rights protection, shared prosperity, and sustainable development via people-centered and result-focused initiatives. We are looking for a Communications Officer to join our new team, supporting communication related activities. This position reports directly to the President of the HHI Switzerland Branch, working in collaboration with the HHI Switzerland Program Management Team and Social Media Team.
Position: Communications Officer
Location : Geneva ; remote work possible
Duration: Open-ended; part-time
Payment: Unpaid volunteer
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our target audience.
- Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing material that communicates the organization's activities, products and/or services.
- Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and act as a spokesperson for the organization.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, and maintain a media database.
- Seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of the brand, and coordinate publicity events as required.
- Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics.
- Proficiency in design and publishing software.
- Manage conflict as it arises and escalate to management.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 - 5 years' relevant experience in a communications role.
- Knowledge of desktop publishing software (InDesign/Photoshop).
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms.
